Advocating/Lobbying Initiatives – The recent notable events in the regulatory and lawmaking arenas provide a marker for what can be a new era in the continuing development of the IPA and the alternative investment industry. Going forward, our challenge is to effectively tell our story, to widen the appeal of our products, and to transform a recent dialogue of discredit into a renewed discourse of opportunity that provides comfort to future alternative investors that stand to benefit from the many distinctive positive attributes of the products we offer.
The IPA Policy Advocacy Committee was established in November 2011 to support the membership’s emergence into this new era. This past January, the committee helped the IPA retain a lobbying firm, The Eris Group, to represent IPA interests and to begin creating and telling our story in Washington. Today, we remain busy supporting a variety of political initiatives, including advocating the passage in 2012 of the JOBS Act and the US REIT Act.
As we go forward, we ask for your support in helping us gather data on political relationships, issue opportunities, and our industry so we can best prepare a robust long term strategic policy plan. This assures we can build a foundation for a well-positioned IPA in Washington and beyond.
