House Committee to Review Accredited Investor Legislation Next Week

5.16.25

Next week, the House Financial Services Committee is expected to consider a package of capital formation bills, including proposals to expand the accredited investor definition. The IPA, which leads the Accredited Investor Alliance (AIA), has long advocated for broader eligibility criteria that reflect investor sophistication, not just wealth thresholds.

Among the measures potentially under review is a proposal that would exclude retirement assets from accredited investor calculations. If advanced, this provision could significantly reduce the number of qualifying investors and limit access to private market opportunities.

IPA member firms are encouraged to join a coalition letter urging lawmakers to preserve retirement assets as part of the accredited investor framework: https://nzdc2fa1.paperform.co/

The deadline to join the letter is Monday, May 19 at 3:00 p.m. ET.
